Ministry of Interior Announces Commission for Suppression of Online Fraud

Phnom Penh, 17 July 2024: On the morning of Tuesday, July 17, 2024, the Ministry of Interior held a meeting to announce the composition of the Commission for the Suppression of Online Fraud in the Capital and Provinces. The meeting was presided over by Santi Bandith Sok Phal, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior. It was attended by various high-ranking officials, including the Undersecretary of State, the National Police Commissioner, the Director General, and Provincial Governors.

On June 27, 2024, the Ministry of Interior established the Commission for the Suppression of Online Fraud with Dr. Sok Phal, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior, appointed as Chairman. The commission consists of 16 members.

THE COMMISSION HAS BEEN TASKED WITH SEVERAL KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Identifying and locating sites engaged in all forms of online fraud within the capital and provinces.

2. Assigning tasks to the Capital-Provincial Unity Command to carry out targeted crackdowns as determined by the Chairman of the Commission. The Chairman has the authority to utilize officials from relevant units under the Commission to coordinate operations efficiently and promptly.

3. Arresting perpetrators and seizing evidence, as well as bringing those involved to court for sentencing in accordance with existing laws. In cases involving foreign perpetrators, procedures outlined in the Immigration Law will be followed.
